What is GEO (generative engine optimization)?

GEO means making your business easy for AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to find, understand and recommend. For a local business it builds on the same foundations as local SEO: an accurate Google Business Profile, consistent listings, real reviews, and clear website pages that answer customer questions.

Is this different from regular SEO?

It overlaps. Google Business Profile and listings still matter most for local searches, and AI assistants read many of the same sources. GEO adds content and structured data written so an AI can quote it accurately.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?
